The effect of waste-expanded perlite on alkali activation of ground granulated blast furnace slag

Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibility using ground waste-expanded perlite (WP) as a sustainable replacement for granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) precursor in alkali-activated systems. nature and amount hydration products, microstructure, compressive strength development were investigated mixtures where GGBFS substituted with 10, 20 40% by weight WP activated two alkali activators: sodium carbonate hydroxide. results show that can be successfully used partial materials. Activation Na 2 CO 3 solution more profitable terms than NaOH, well water bound products higher. Substitution wt.% resulted 93 MPa at 90 days while equivalent sample hydroxide, 29 MPa. Further incorporation into systems reduction performance development, especially early age. In addition C–S–H, hydrotalcite, three different types carbonates samples NaOH solution, rich C(–N)–S–H found.
